I use a homeschool charter school for my boys. There is a bit of a different between "average" homeschooling and charter homeschooling. But either way, I wasn't really thrilled with his view on charter schools. Maybe I was being hyper-sensitive, I don't know, but it upset me that he focused on charter schools needing to be fixed, and charter schools not measuring up to standards, but he automatically assumes that the regular schools are fine. He doesn't once mention shutting down a regular public school if it's not working, but does mention shutting down the charter schools. It's already been proven that most charter schools rank higher than regular public schools.

My feeling is that he is on the side of the traditional public school teacher, and that he will try to regulate any other choice until it is no better than the regular public schools. I hope that I am wrong, but I haven't seen anything to prove otherwise. Of course, hopefully he'll be busy enough with the economy that it'll be a long time before he can try to tackle homeschooling! ;)

I found this page with Obama's "platform" on education. It' doesn't address homeschooling, either. However it does address charter schools, which he supports (if they perform to expectations). I would guess by extension that philosophically he would support homeschooling...but then I'm not exactly known for my ability to read politicians!
