When do we mind our own business?
With the internet comes a lot of wonderful things. People who wouldn’t ever think that there is another person like them in the whole world, find that they are not alone at all. I have found, that I am not the only single parent homeschooling, which I was sure that I was when I first started. Now, I have 4 email lists that are filled with other single moms who homeschool. We’re a small fraction of the homeschooling community, but we’re still growing too. In fact, I just found out yesterday that a local friend had wanted to continue homeschooling when she got divorced, but didn’t know how, and didn’t know there was anyone who was doing it, so felt she couldn’t continue. Hot Topics In Homeschooling
A while ago, I talked about wanting to write an article for the Secular Homeschooling Magazine about dealing with “The Talk” as homeschoolers. I was able to get that done, plus a short article with answers from several experts in the fields of child psychology, pediatrics, and education on several tough questions. The issue that these articles will be in will be out soon! You can order your subscription on their site. Changes for Jack & Review of New/Old Curriculum
My youngest son Jack, age 13, has not been happy with school for a while now. We’ve been using K12′s charter school, mostly for convenience sake. Until we moved to Las Vegas two years ago, I was working outside the home. It was too much for me to try to work a 50 hr + work week and create my own curriculum. So I used the charter school. At first my oldest was the one who had some trouble with the schoolwork, but in California the K12 school was a little more relaxed on schedules and deadlines.
