Hot Topics In Homeschooling

A while ago, I talked about wanting to write an article for the Secular Homeschooling Magazine about dealing with “The Talk” as homeschoolers.  I was able to get that done, plus a short article with answers from several experts in the fields of child psychology, pediatrics, and education on several tough questions.  The issue that these articles will be in will be out soon!  You can order your subscription on their site.  Along with my two articles, there will be others tackling tough issues such as sex, death, controversial types of homeschooling and a lot more.

This is one of my favorite homeschooling magazines because it doesn’t hold back or sugar coat any tough issues.  It’s also generally very funny.  Although this next issue is about tough  topics, there are some funny pieces in it as well.  If you haven’t seen the magazine yet, please go to their site and check it out.  They always have at least one or two articles online available to read, and their subscription fee is very reasonable! (BTW, I get nothing for referring you to the magazine, I”m just totally thrilled with it!  And would love to have my articles read by you, my dear blog reader!  icon wink Hot Topics In Homeschooling

When I was writing the article for the magazine, I used HARO to find experts to ask questions.  Which those answers turned into a whole other article, which is fine with me.  I also recieved a fantastic book, The Talk: What Your Kids Need to Hear from You About Sex by Ph.D., Sharon Maxwell Hot Topics In Homeschooling This book is all about having “the Talk” with your kids and a lot more.  I will be doing a full review of it after the magazine issue has come out.  So please stay tuned.

So I was wondering, what tough topics have you had to tackle in homeschooling?  Have you had to have the talk with a teen/tween?  Was there a death in the family that brought that issue up?  Maybe it was religion or politics?  Those were hot topics in my household mostly because my mother and I didn’t agree on the presidential candidates or the views some of the held.  So what were your hot topics and how did you  handle them?
