Free Resources

free sign 300x238 Free ResourcesI always think its so funny to read on different forums that there is a huge misperception that homeschoolers are some how “wealthy” because they can “afford” to have one parent stay at home to do the schooling.  LOL!  I’m sure there are some homeschoolers out there that have little financial worries, the more common situation is that we scrimp and save as much as possible, and sacrifice where ever we can so that we CAN homeschool our kids.  “Rich” or “Wealthy” are very seldom synonomous with homeschoolers.  With that in mind, here are some FREE (I love that word) resources for your homeschool!

storytime Free Resources

With over forty two million books in print, Hans Wilhelm is one of America’s foremost author/illustrator of children’s books. Many of his 200 books have been translated into twenty languages and have become successful animated television series that are enjoyed by
children all over the world. His books have won numerous international awards and prizes.

Now you can get 38 of Hans Wilhelm‘s wonderful classic books for FREE.  Just head over to his site, Childrens Books Forever, and you can download them for print, power point presentations or over head projectors.  These are for personal use only, not commercial.

maggies earth adventures Free Resources Miss Maggie’s Earth Adventures are a wonderful free resource that I’ve used for my boys for a long time.  I actually kinda miss the fact that my boys are little too old for these supplements.  This is a weekly subscription for activities and lesson plans that are based on current events or topics.  Each packet includes some activities for Language Arts, Math, Science, &/or  Social Studies.  These are amazing curriculum supplements that are geared for primary, emergent readers and intermediate readers, as well as being available both in English and Spanish.  Most of these packets are great for grade levels 1 – 6.

jumpstartlanguage Free Resources Jump Start is one of my favorite curriculum software for early elementary kids.  I’ve used these programs from the beginning of homeschooling my boys.  They really are fun and easy and teach your kids a lot.    Now you can get their language learning programs for free!  Just head over to Planet CD Rom and order your copy.  Hurry!  Supplies are limited!

Free Homeschool Software – While not exactly free, you do only have to pay for shipping and handling, which is between $6.00 – $7.50 per item, depending on how many items you order.  Some of the titles you can find there are “The Oregon Trail”, “Reader Rabbit”, and more.  You can find software for every subject.  These are great titles and although not completely free, they are more then reasonably priced!

projectgutenberg Free Resources

One of the best places ever for homeschoolers, is the Project Gutenberg website.  Over 100,000 books online for free!  These are books that no longer have their copyright in the US and volunteers from all over have put these books online to make them available to everyone.  I’ve used this site for numerous book reports for the boys to do.  It’s an amazing resource for all homeschoolers!

Well, I hope you’ll have found some wonderful, interesting, and helpful free (or almost free) resources here.  As I come across more, I’ll be listing them in other posts.  I just wanted to add a few more to my growing list of freebies for Homeschoolers.  If there is something that you know about that you’d like to share, please leave a comment with a link.  Or if you’d like me to try and find something for you, just let me know!  Have a wonderful week and a wonderful homeschool journey!
