I have to say one of the great things about living here in Las Vegas is the extremely large and active homeschooling community.  Not only are there tons of great homeschool support groups, but the laws here in NV are very friendly to homeschoolers!  There are also tons of various city wide homeschool events for kids of all ages.  I love them so much, that I thought I’d list a few of the great things going on here in my area.

Homeschool Skating Day – On the third Friday of every month, Crystal Palace on Rancho Rd, holds a skate day.  They have a reduced price of entry, $6, which includes the skate rental.  This has been going on for several years and is very popular, especially with the older kids in the area.  It starts from 10am – 1 pm.  Plan to stay with your kids or have an adult present the whole time, no matter what their age.

Homeschool Tennis Day – This is a brand new event that will start in April, 2010.  The International Tennis Centre has a staff of professionals with extensive experience teaching children the skills they need to play tennis.  From young children who have never picked-up a racquet to teenagers who are training for tournaments, ITC works with all levels of youth to provide the foundation they need to succeed.   Please join us for a fun afternoon of tennis for $10.00 per child at our beautiful, indoor facility!

Homeschool Jump Day – This is on the 2nd Friday of every month.  This is an indoor, wall to wall, trampoline place, where kids of all ages can jump around to their hearts content!  Another great place for older kids to have fun, but all ages are welcome.

Indoor Rock Climbing - This even happens on the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Nevada Climbing Center, 3065 E Patrick Lane, Las Vegas, NV.    6,400 sq. ft. of fully contoured 30 foot high climbing walls with 14,000 linear feet of climbing. The walls include areas for leading, top roping, and bouldering.Cost is $7 for climbers (includes harness)or $8 (includes shoes/nice but not necessary)

Junior Olympic Archery Development Program – Happens every 2nd Tuesday of the month.  They learn the basics of safty and how to use the bow. They earn patches as they complete each level. Time:11am to 12:30ish

As you can see there are a lot of great activities that are happening for Homeschoolers in the Las Vegas area.  These are only just a few!  Please remember that most of the places where the events are taking place do not list them on their websites.  The times also do change occasionally, so please call ahead for full details.  I hope that more homeschoolers will join in these great activities and more will be available.  If you know of any that I don’t have listed here, please let me know!
