Last time I wrote about a lesson that I was giving my boys on leadership and reports.  Well it turns out that they both did quite well.  Roger chose some interesting and unique names and the one we chose for him to do was on Joseph Campbell, a philosophy professor who influenced many great people.  Jackson chose mostly presidents, inventors and the like, and we asked him to do his report on Benjamin Franklin.  I was very pleased with both of their reports.

Joseph Campbell - Author The Power of the Myth

Roger’s report on Joseph Campbell was very well written and thought out.  I was a little surprised and taken back by how much he researched and put into the report.  We hadn’t given them a lot of time to do research or write, but that was kinda the point.    There’s still a few things that we need to iron out in his presentation of the report and learning about how to write and use an outline, but over all, I was very please.

Jack’s report on Benjamin Franklin was also very well researched.  Jack being a couple of years younger isn’t quite as good at actually writing out his report.  Mostly he writes like he speaks, which is fine in some circumstances, but when you’re writing a report like this one for schoolwork, it should be done in a more editorial sort of way rather than informal like a letter.  He also needs to work with using an outline.  Over all I’m very pleased with his report as well.  They both took the time to do the research and the work in writing about their subject.

And along with doing a great job on the report, Jackson is now officially in 8th grade!!  WhooOOHHHOOO!!!

He really worked hard on getting all of his 7th grade work finished so he could move onto 8th grade work in, Time4Learning. Now, if he works equally as hard, he’ll be starting 9th grade (OMG another High Schooler!?!?!) in the Fall.  Which will mean that he can go to Odyssey High school with his brother.  Jack is such a home body, that he needs to be forced to get OUT OF THE HOUSE!  once ina while!  And this will do just that.  So we’ll see how that goes.
