Free Child Safety Kit from ADT

ChildSafetyKit Free Child Safety Kit from ADT

As any parent knows, our children’s safety is our highest priority.  That’s why when I ran accross this free Safety Kit from ADT, I had to tell everyone about it.  The kit comes with a guide on teaching your children how to be safe both in the real world and online, a cool fingerprint kit, a magnet, a reflective sticker for kids to wear in the dark, and games, too.  This is for any child that is 14 years old or younger, one kit per child.  It takes about 4 – 6 weeks to receive in the mail.  But I think it’ll be well worth the wait.

High Schooler in the House

Yes, that’s right, I said High Schooler!  My Roger, my baby, my first born son, is now a High Schooler.  Where did all the time go?  It seems like just yesterday he was a little baby.   Wasn’t he just adorable as a baby!  This picture was taken about 14 years ago.  I can hardly believe this is the same child that’s downstairs starting his first day of high school.

Review – Rand McNally Boredom Breakers

mainimg right Review Rand McNally Boredom Breakers

Recently I was asked to try out and review these new products by Rand McNally called Boredom Breakers.  They are Rand McNally’s answer to how to keep kids entertained during a long (or short) road trip.  As you may have seen, Last month we took a trip up to Northern Nevada that took us about 4 hours one way to drive.  When I found out about this product to review we were planning on making that trip again in the near future.  However that trip was changed to taking a trip to Cheyenne, Wy.  This trip will be a 12 hour drive.  Even my teenagers, who have always been really great on long trips, will need something to do!  These Boredom Breakers will be a life saver…. for them more than me.

The age restrictions, and program dates vary from center to center, and this program is not offered in every state, so check out their website. You can also get a discounted summer family pass for under $25 for up to 4 adults or older children to play during the summer.

Have fun!

Summer Family Field Trip

great basin desert 300x225 Summer Family Field Trip

This month my family is going on a little trip to The Great Basin National Park for a weekend field trip and star party.  Steve has a nice sized telescope and we’ve been to star parties before, but never at one of the darkest places in the country.  So this should be amazing!  We’re also going to be going to Lehman Caves and to see the Upper Pictograph Cave.  There is really a lot to see and do up there and the National forest website even has some curriculum to go over before the trip.  And the boys thought they were off for the summer!  HA!

Summertime!

summertime Summertime! So I think it’s kinda funny that my sons are all happy that it’s Summer Vacation.  They are home all the time, they don’t have to “go to” school, but somehow “Summer” means something extra special for them.  I know that part of it is because they are watching TV and have friends and family who are in “traditional” school and everyone is talking about school being out.  But I wonder if they think that things are going to be THAT different?

This was a very interesting turn of events for me.  Just recently I became the Nevada State Rep for Time4Learning.com’s forums.   It’s a new forum where you can ask questions about any topic that you need more information on.  From questions about Time4Learning itself to questions about your individual state, whatever your question, there is someone there that can help you.

Come stop by and chat awhile!

Social Studies Essay by Jack

Jack has been using Time4Learning for his school for the last several months and I’m very happy with the curriculum. One of the lessons he’s done this week in Social Studies was to research and write an essay on the religious beliefs of the West Africans prior to 750AD. It took me some time to get him to do the research on exactly that without him going off on a tangent about just Voodoo, but below is his final essay.  I have not done any editing on spelling or wording, mostly because I thought it was cute the way he wrote it all.  Can you tell he’s a story teller?
