The Trouble With a Charter School Is……
Sometimes they are just too much of a “public school”. One of the reasons I liked the idea of using Odyssey Charter High School for Roger’s high school because of the interaction with other kids… as well as some interaction with teachers. I also really didn’t feel like I had the time, being that I’m working on growing a small business in todays economy, to do my own curriculum. I needed something that was ready made! Well.. the down side to having something “ready made” and using a public charter school, is that it’s still a public school and all that that implies.
Hot Topics In Homeschooling
A while ago, I talked about wanting to write an article for the Secular Homeschooling Magazine about dealing with “The Talk” as homeschoolers. I was able to get that done, plus a short article with answers from several experts in the fields of child psychology, pediatrics, and education on several tough questions. The issue that these articles will be in will be out soon! You can order your subscription on their site. Along with my two articles, there will be others tackling tough issues such as sex, death, controversial types of homeschooling and a lot more. Read the rest of this entry »
When do we mind our own business?
With the internet comes a lot of wonderful things. People who wouldn’t ever think that there is another person like them in the whole world, find that they are not alone at all. I have found, that I am not the only single parent homeschooling, which I was sure that I was when I first started. Now, I have 4 email lists that are filled with other single moms who homeschool. We’re a small fraction of the homeschooling community, but we’re still growing too. In fact, I just found out yesterday that a local friend had wanted to continue homeschooling when she got divorced, but didn’t know how, and didn’t know there was anyone who was doing it, so felt she couldn’t continue. Although I live in a City of over 2 million people, we still found each other, and via the internet! Read the rest of this entry »
Single, Homeschool & Dating
Three words I thought I’d never see together and three words I never thought would describe me… at least not all at the same time. And yet, 11 years ago that’s where I found myself. My youngest wasn’t two yet and my oldest was barely 4. So maybe in the beginning there wasn’t a lot of actual homeschooling being done, but it certainly was my intention. There I was barely 26, two small boys, and getting a divorce. Dating and homeschooling weren’t really first and foremost on my mind at the time, but it wouldn’t be long. Read the rest of this entry »
Guest Posting On the Peanut Butter Blog
I do love peanut butter. It’s been one of my favortie foods since I was a kid. Luckily, Peanut Butter was one of the few things that I was NOT allergic to as a child… well after I was 3 or 4 at least. So I ate a lot of peanut butter in my life. That being so, the Peanut Butter Blog is one of my favorites. She finds interesting uses for peanut butter, finds cute clothing and accessories that have something peanut buttery about it. So when she asked for volunteer Guest Posters, I jumped at the chance. So Please, visit her great Peanut Buttery Blog and see my post later tonight.
