Teens Can Be So Much Fun

Or ways to make your kids say “you suck”.  LOL!  File this under they say the darndest things!

My 16 year old comes into my office and sees a nearly empty bag of pretzels on my desk (yes I”m too lazy to throw it away), and wants to know if he can have some.

I say “sure, except it’s empty”

Roger “There’s still some!” takes the bag of crumbs and runs out of the office just as I say bring me the other bag.  As he’s bringing me the OTHER bad of pretzels Roger says “You suck mom!  These taste gross.  The other ones are better!  Why didn’t you tell me these were FAT FREE!?!?!”

Me “Because they both are fat free.  All pretzels are fat free”.

Roger “Nu uh!!  This bag SAYS “Fat Free” on it and the other one doesn’t.  Why’s that???  HUH??”

Me “Advertising”

Roger checks to see what the back of the bags say and sees that ONCE AGAIN  Mom is RIGHT!!  Both bags have 0 grams of fat.

Roger “But this one tastes gross!  and the other doesn’t!”

Me “Could be because you ate the crumbs from a bag that’s been sitting open for several days”

Roger “You still suck!”

Aren’t teenagers great?

Spring Break?

springAUSTIN0702 468x594 236x300 Spring Break?

My sons are counting down the hours till “Spring Break”, which is going to be next week.  They are going to be spending the entire week with my mom, because they need some “pampering” and no one does that better than Grandma… and Grandma needs some strong young men to help her around the house right now too.  heh!  Roger, who “goes” to Odyssey Charter High School, has an actual spring break.  He doesn’t have “class” or course work next week, and won’t be going to P.E.   But Jack, who is using Time4Learning for his curriculum doesn’t HAVE to go on break at any particular time, or at all for that matter.  But I’m letting him not do work next week so he and his brother could do stuff together… like fight over who has control over the T.V. and computer. Are You Really Surprised?

Is anyone really surprised that a nation with compulsory government education would one day require compulsory government healthcare too? – Spunky HomeSchool

This is a question posed on a Facebook Friends status, which was passed around from one homeschooler to another.  And it’s so very true.  Are you really surprised that this is the way our nation is going?

Review – GIFTED HANDS: THE BEN CARSON STORY

I usually like the movies and original series that TNT produces, which is why I was elated when I was asked to review this movie.  I decided to review it here on my homeschooling site because, although it is not about homeschooling directly, it shows the same values that we all hold.  It shows a mom who “homeschooled” her sons while they were going to and failing at the Public schools.  It was because of her non-tradtional way of teaching them and pushing them that made her son Benjamin Carson that great man that he became.

Mom, I Think Walmart’s Sexist.

After seeing this Walmart Commercial my son Jack came to me and said, “Mom, I think walmart is sexist”.

Me “Oh? Why do you say that?” I hadn’t seen this particular commercial. He was upstairs watching TV.

Jack, “Because on this commercial they had for halloween. All the costumes that the mom pulls out for boys are super heroes, and all the costumes for girls are princess (which he says with a lisp, btw)ones. Why don’t they have super hero costumes for the girls? Or Doctor costumes. See, they are sexist.”

Me, “oh honey, you just gave me my next blog post!”

This must have worried him a little because he went upstairs and then came right back down and said… “hey before you blog about that, maybe we should rethink it. I mean maybe walmart isn’t really sexist?”

Me “Too late”

Jack “WHAT?!?! You blogged already??”

Me “no, I twittered about it” I did too… really fast!

Jack “But mom! What if walmart sees?”

I guess it was probably a good thing I didn’t tell him some of my twitter friends are the Walmart 11 moms!

Kids! If nothing else, they are great for blogging!

My Son Jack

He’s a Character for sure! While I’m working on my business, taking phone calls, the boys are generally downstairs doing their school work. Ineveitablly, Jackson is still doing his schoolwork long past the time I officially get “off work”. Mostly because he can’t stop thinking about everything else but school. He plays with the cat, he wanders around the house talking to who ever is or isn’t there. Literally he will spend all day on one math problem. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Things To Do That Are Also Educational

One of the things that my sons have a tendancy to NOT like about homeschooling, is the fact that they never really get a “vacation”. Although this year they have had more of a vacation from school than any other year. Mostly because they’ve been spending a lot of time at my mom’s house, getting spoiled rotten, and not having to do anything educational. Read the rest of this entry »
