Lessons Lessons Lessons
Last time I wrote about a lesson that I was giving my boys on leadership and reports. Well it turns out that they both did quite well. Roger chose some interesting and unique names and the one we chose for him to do was on Joseph Campbell, a philosophy professor who influenced many great people. Jackson chose mostly presidents, inventors and the like, and we asked him to do his report on Benjamin Franklin. I was very pleased with both of their reports. Read the rest of this entry »
Been away for a while
I realize I”ve been a way from this blog for a while now. I kept meaning to update people and write about our adventures in High school and Jr. High. but really my business has grown to the point where that’s taking up most of my time now. However, things have been going really well for both of the boys in school.
Jack has been doing his work with Time4Learning, and is almost done with all of the 7th grade work and will be going onto 8th grade work shortly. He may even be able to go on ahead into High School in the fall. If he does, then he’ll more than likely start using Odyssey Charter with Roger because I really like the way things are done at that school.
Roger has been doing PE two days a week and going to campus one day a week. This has been giving him a lot of independance and he’s been making friends and doing really well. He’s even got a girlfriend now and they will be going to the Las Vegas Homeschool Prom next month.
So basically everything is going really well, if a little hectic because of the business. I feel a little guilty because I haven’t been doing a whole lot “school” with the boys, but they’ve been doing their schoolwork on their own. Maybe I don’t “feel” much like a homeschooler right now because I’m really not doing much. But they are both doing really well and are very independent in their learning… which is more like the way things would be in College anyway. Or at least that’s the way I feel.
Summertime!
So I think it’s kinda funny that my sons are all happy that it’s Summer Vacation. They are home all the time, they don’t have to “go to” school, but somehow “Summer” means something extra special for them. I know that part of it is because they are watching TV and have friends and family who are in “traditional” school and everyone is talking about school being out. But I wonder if they think that things are going to be THAT different?
Changes for Jack & Review of New/Old Curriculum
My youngest son Jack, age 13, has not been happy with school for a while now. We’ve been using K12′s charter school, mostly for convenience sake. Until we moved to Las Vegas two years ago, I was working outside the home. It was too much for me to try to work a 50 hr + work week and create my own curriculum. So I used the charter school. At first my oldest was the one who had some trouble with the schoolwork, but in California the K12 school was a little more relaxed on schedules and deadlines. I thought that the NV equivalent was going to be the same, but I was wrong. Read the rest of this entry »
Getting Frustrated With My Son
My oldest son has gone through many stages and come out of them just fine. He takes the “normal” amount of time going through these different stages. I always hope that my younges will do the same, but he’s very different than my oldest. He starts the various stages and phases at about the same age that my oldest son did, but getting through them is the troubling part.
Jack’s been in the stage of whining about schoolwork for 2 years now, well 2 school years. I know he’ll grow out of it eventually, but in the mean time I”m frustrated. Of course when I get frustrated, it only makes things worse. I know this, but it doesn’t help either of us to know and understand.
Thursday Thirteen – Edition #4
So I was looking around this great Uk Home Office Furniture Super Market, and I saw some really nice desks, chairs, and other office furniture, and it made me think about what the boys need for their school room. Ok, right now we don’t actually have a “room”, it’s more like several areas where the boys do their schoolwork and have their computer. But it got me to thinking about what it is I’d really like to have, if/when we have a dedicated room for school. So that’s what my Thursday Thirteen is about. Read the rest of this entry »
My Son Jack
He’s a Character for sure! While I’m working on my business, taking phone calls, the boys are generally downstairs doing their school work. Ineveitablly, Jackson is still doing his schoolwork long past the time I officially get “off work”. Mostly because he can’t stop thinking about everything else but school. He plays with the cat, he wanders around the house talking to who ever is or isn’t there. Literally he will spend all day on one math problem. Read the rest of this entry »
